Our forum sometimes sounds like a Cuttlebug Fan Club!!!!  So I thought I would share with you some of the tips the lovely ladies have been sharing.

It’s a shock when you make your first cut on your lovely new clean cutting mat, but don’t worry, it’s normal for the die to mark the cutting mat.  As you can see, mine is marked and warped, and works fine!  It’s the sign of a used and loved Cuttlebug!!!

The Cuttlebug embossing folders are fabulous!  They are really easy to use, and make it possible to make a classy card in not time at all.

And it’s not just card they can be used with.  Below is a quick card made by putting vellum in the embossing folder.

Anne C on our forum told us how you can ink the embossing folders to great effect. you can either brayer the ink on, or rub the inkpad directly on to the embossing folder.  It’s the inside of the side with the Cuttlebug name written on you need to ink.  I used a Brilliance pad here which just washed off the embossing folder afterwards.  Don’t use permanent ink such as Stazon for this!

This is how a piece of card placed in the inked embossing folder comes out.  As you can see, the raised embossed area remains white.

The opposite effect to this is to emboss your card as normal, with no ink, and rub a make up sponge dabbed into your inkpad over the embossing, which will colour the raised embossed bits.

You don’t need a sponge – you can try lightly sweeping your inkpad over the card.  Rubbing chalks over the embossed area would give the same effect too.

It was Linda Hart that introduced me to putting acetate in the Cuttlebug embossing folders. you need quite thick acetate for the best results here – and you hear a lovely crack as it goes through!

I have swiped a Stazon pad over the raised wording ‘Crazy’ here to show you.  Linda did this, then cut the box out and attached it to a card with brads as an embellishment.

Try turning your embossed acetate over, and filling the grooves with a Souffle pen, or sparkly gel pen!

Cuttlebug Tips

Now I flip my mat over each cut, so that it is marked on both sides, and the mat isn’t warped. It’s not what Provocraft recommend, but it works for me!
