Altered CD

Step 1

First I raided my husbands pan pipe CD collection! After selecting the most annoying CD, I gave it a couple of coats of white gesso. I then sponged Broken China Distress ink over it, and used Mod Podge to stick a piece of torn page on.

Step 2

Next I painted gesso over the torn page. Although it looks solid white here, once brushed in the text shows through. Once that was dry, I painted a light blue over it. To be honest, I could have just done that without doing the gesso, but I like using the gesso!

Step 3

This is a great product! It’s called Croco, and is made by Viva. Spread it on quite thickly to achieve lovely big cracks. I find it is best to leave it to dry naturally - it’s best left overnight. This completely goes against my gung-ho must do it now style, but patience really is a virtue with this product!

Step 4

I found this mesh in a DIY store - plasterers use if for joining plasterboard apparently! I tattered a small piece, placed it on the CD then smeared Croco over it.

Step 5

I stamped my wording using Stazon on a piece of tissue. I watered down some PVA glue slightly, and coloured it with Broken China Distress Ink reinker. I brushed this where the tissue was going, placed the tissue on and pushed it into the CD with the brush, then brushed it over the top too to soak the tissue which blends it in.  Once dry I smeared a bit of Croco over the edges.
