I love this design because you can really play with the petals.  I have used Fresco paints here (click here for a Fresco Crackle tutorial). You can also use patterned paper, or even spend some calm evenings doing Zentangle or doodling on them.

Machine cutters, please see the petal PDF to correctly number and position your petals.

The above card was made using patterned paper. Edging the petals with a gold pen really finishes it nicely and gives it an oriental feel. I also sprinkled a fine glitter on the ends of the petals.
